Can someone with a knowledge of tape heads look at this?

It's for an Otari MX5050. Basically just wanna know (if it's possible to tell from this pretty bad photo) whether the heads are shot or not. I don't see any dark vertical lines in the centre of the heads, but they don't look totally right to me. May just be reflections in the metal, hard to tell from here.

Send them to JRF Magnetics http://jrfmagnetics.com/ for a head report. It's the only true way to know.

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

I'm in Australia, so I don't have the luxury.

Over at gearslutz I'm pretty sure there's an Australian section. I'd have to assume that there's someone in country who inspects and relaps heads.

Do you own said machine, or is this a picture from a seller? If it is the later, see if he can get you a better picture so that you can see that bottom track.
They mostly come at night..... Mostly.

It was from a seller - I ended up buying it and luckily for me the heads are good.
