Fender replacement speakers?

Just wondering about replacement 12" speakers for Fenders. I have a 68 twin
with one jensen and one utah that both need reconing for the second time in six months,and the amp has never been above "3". The thing still has the original 6l6's in it,and sounds great through an external cab,but at $150 every recone,I think I'd rather install something reliable. Whaddya think?

Weber's are good. I don't have any experience with the high power line (which would be required with a twin) but the cheaper signature series is very good.

if you are blowing up speakers every three months playing regularly, I would ask what are the speakers power rating that you are using? Twins need at least 60 watts a speaker, but there are Jensens and EVs that are rated 100 watts. Something with a 2"
voice coil,if you are using EFX in front of the amp..........

Eminence.

They have a speaker for every tone. Their web site has response curves as well.

For a twin a smoother wide response speaker tends to work best. Look at the V-128 as an excellent replacement. They also will handle the power at 120 watts each. Low cost, get them from Electro Harmonix for about fifty bucks each.

Another would be their Red Coat Tonker. Those are rated at 150 watts each and you will never fry those. They are also very loud at 103 db/watt SPL. I have a new pair for sale, I'll take $60 each for them, you pay shipping.

I think it would be prudent to determine what is causing the problem that requires reconing every three months....then buy new speakers.

Im not so sure about the amp being the problem here. Jensen and utah both made a ton of speakers in the lower wattage ranges.

For the money, it's really Hard to beat the eminence folks. Very cool sounding speakers....and fdm speakers you can actually use to attenuate your volume.

Which might come in handy with all that twin power.

Think I'll try the Tonkers. I'll shoot you a hoot Jim after payday.
Probably some parasitic oscillation/passing dc issue,or shifted coils,
trying to not drastically change it,since the tone is nice,without poking
your eye out.I should probably redo power supply,but then that leads to
10 other things,and then may as well use the showman.
#1 it's stock-it doesnt hum,hiss,buzz
#2-it's never blown my greenback 2x12,or 4x12"
#3-It's never been above 3

I agree on the thumbs up for Eminence. I've built a few bass and guitar cabs
for friends,and the bang for the buck factor is high. Sweet!
