Apogee Jam? Something else?

Post by comfortstarr » Tue Aug 28, 2012 7:05 am

For a variety of reasons I'd like to get a little doohickey like the Apogee Jam for noodling about when I'm not near my iMac.

I tried to search for opinions of it, but I confess to not having much luck with this site's search function.

So... Anyone have one? Do you like it? Does it suck? Any alternatives? And, can you plug a mic into it? I know they sell the MiC thing, but it's $200 smackers and I don't need a mic.

Bumpity... Really? Nobody has one? Just saw this: http://tascam.com/product/iu2/. $50 more, not quite as portable, but looks awfully useful.

The Apogee Jam is good. I tried the iRig but have had much better signal and results with the Apogee.

The JAM is the best option, by far. I use it with my iPad when traveling somewhere I know I'll have access to a guitar. My home studio includes an Apogee Duet, which is great. Every device I've used by this company sounds great and never fails. Hope that helps.

I picked up a jam after doing a bit of research and it has certainly met my expectations. I use it in conjunction with garageband on the ipad3 and away I go!

Go for it.

I'm using this GuitarJack thing. Its small, has a 1/4" mono + a 1/8" stereo in, 1/8" stereo out, well built, sounds good.

Wondering if there are any strong endorsements for an iPad4 audio interface yet.

It would be swell to sing and play a direct guitar at the same time over a drum machine. Seems like Garageband should suffice for most of my needs, I just need a way to get guitar in there.

This looks like I might be able to sing into it while plugging in direct, no? Is latency an issue on these?

Not sure if this helps, but there is a pretty comprehensive list of compatible interfaces over on the Auria site:

Thanks. That's a big help.

I'm kind of surprised no one has any endorsements here. No loving reviews?

Haven't used a "proper" interface for my iPad yet (just a crummy iRig). Personally, I'm leaning towards the Sonoma Guitar Jack 2- made in USA per the FAQ, and supposedly the A/D is pretty decent.
