Western Electric 639B Adapter

Post by informationhoarder » Mon Oct 29, 2012 2:43 pm

During what seemed to be another day as a tag sale lady, I've just snagged a Western Electric 639B (http://www.coutant.org/altec639/index.html) at a dead person's house (for free >:D), and searching for an XLR adapter.
The only one I found was 75.00 bucks.
This seems outrageous for an adapter. Is this standard for adapters on old mics like this? Should I just rip the mic open and re-wire it appropriately?
I believe I am looking for a 4069XLR.
Any tips or suggestions on where to find it for cheap??
Thank you.

For cheap? No.

But you are looking for the same adaptor as the Coles 4038 uses, and that might help you in your search...

AEA (and probably other folks) have them, which is probably your expensive source?...

Luck!

Thank you, I appreciate the replies. (P.S. The compressor district sign is priceless, I want to go there.)
