I love the TOMB!

Post by T-rex » Sun Dec 02, 2012 7:31 am

You know, I just wanted to say I love the TOMB. And I mean I don't just love it, I fucking love it. I have been on here for maybe 10 years now? And I went through all the phases:

1. Denial - acting like I knew something, "I mean, I am in a band, right?"
2. Anger - realizing I really didn't know anything
3. Bargaining - "I want to open a studio!" and realizing that expensive gear is the secret!
4. Depression - in small amount of debt and realizing expensive gear is NOT the secret
5. Acceptance ? out of debt and engineering/mixing some really great records that most people will never even hear.

I was really lucky to find this resource all those years ago. It has been a lifesaver. The community and advice is amazingly good; opposed to the other forums out there, here you have people pushing you to NOT buy new gear and use what you have. Finally, the people I have met here have been amazing.

I know it's sappy, I know its been said before, but I just wanted to say it again. I didn't know what section to put this in, feel free to move it.

I think that the magazine is very cool, but real value is in the message boards.

This is a pretty cool nook of the interwebs.

I love you guys, but you're not getting my Bud Light... Er, Butterfinger Bar... Ah, I mean Astatic microphone and original Black Beauty; I mean-- current copy of Tape Op.

But seriously, yeah: 8)

Agreed. I met the Tape Op guys at the last AES show in NYC, and mentioned how I've loved the magazine but discovering the message board, reading through it, and now interacting on it have completely changed the role of recording in my life (it is now my job, not just a hobby). Their reply/comments about their message boards were...disheartening to say the least, but that's fine, not everyone has to know the opportunity/education that's available here.

This message board helped me confirm that others had discovered things I discovered from my experience, and really helped shape how I've tackled new recording experiences. I owe a lot to this board.

I actually meant to say, "I love that Black Beauty snare that Gregg gave me."

yeah it's a great board i've learned a lot and appreciate the "do it with what you got" approach here and overall the general consensus that people here would rather be recording than talking about recording.

I literally check this board everyday. Probably have for the past 10 years now. I have learned a lot from this board. It's amazing.

It is one of the better places to be. This and the magazine are the first things I tell other musicians about when they start getting interested in recording. The amount of experience and knowledge that you can find on here is awesome.
Of course I've had it in the ear before.....
