Very nice! The pops from broken or missing crossfades especially.

Good stuff, bad title, IMHO. I was expecting things like "hit the 'mono' button to check levels and L/R phase; turn the volume down gradually until items become inaudible - last track standing is the loudest part of the mix", etc. To me, those are the "details". This article seems to be about the mistakes and noises.

I agree, however you should see the sheer AMOUNT of the "details" from this article that are present in every single recording session.GooberNumber9 wrote:Good stuff, bad title, IMHO. The last five albums I mixed only (no recording from me...), which I was told were "mix ready", were far from it. I was hearing all sorts of crap such as the bad edits, pops and clicks, and yes, even a broken mic being used (not on purpose).
There were even MISSING LEAD VOCALS in some sessions. WTF???
It is like some recording "engineers" just turn off their ears and critical listening skills, or maybe don't even have ears nor critical listening skills.
Atrocious.
Cheers

I could see someone confronted about missing lead vocals (!!!) saying: "It looked like the lead vocals were there. I always color lead vocals pink and there's a pink waveform in the session, can you double check that you don't hear them?"Nick Sevilla wrote:There were even MISSING LEAD VOCALS in some sessions. Believe it or not, once, I had a small budget movie mix, in which there was missing dialogue. lots of dialogue. About 1 minute in a 15 minute short film.GooberNumber9 wrote:I could see someone confronted about missing lead vocals (!!!) saying: "It looked like the lead vocals were there. I was told by the producers to "Just deal with it, fix it"... after which I was told in no uncertain terms that overdubs were not allowed, nor them doing anything to lok for the missing parts.
I did deal with it. Gave them back their material, and sent them on their merry way.
It's all in the details....

In an era where printing a mix has become File -> Export, lots of mixes don't even get a really critical final listen. It's amazing how much faith people put in algorithms.
