GT MD1a Repair -

Post by analogcabin » Wed Dec 26, 2012 7:26 am

Hey folks.

I know there are some fans of this mic like me here so...

My MD1a is working great except for one thing. It has a faint high pitched intermittent whistle. It seems like it happens after the mic has been powered up for a while.... but I may be wrong on that.

I've swapped out the tube assuming it was microphonic, but the same issue is still here. Hmmmmmm.

Any thoughts or who would you send it to?

Many thanks!

Me too! Neither of mine need love at this point, but it will happen some day. I wonder if Michael Joly could do something with it? Or maybe Jim Williams here on the board?

Jim Williams doesn't work on mics anymore.

It could be another microphonic component, especially in the high impedance section of the mic. Maybe try Jim Gwanger? the MD1a is a great microphone, well worth fixing if you can afford it.
