Blue Bluebird or Rode nt1a
Blue Bluebird or Rode nt1a
Local pawn shop has both in very good used condition. Bluebird is marked at $150 (pretty sure I could get it for $100 or so) and Rode is marked $99 (could prolly get it for $75). I don't need both, so which of the two would you recommend?

yeah. most of the cheaper rode mic mics sound like super-bright c-12 copies. less harsh than Chinese clones or the sterling mics, but more brightness than I find useful. the bluebird is definately better, but I didn't really care for it much either. sounded a bit boxy compared the the oktava 319 we were using for the same application. not bad for $100, but you could find an 319 for that, and mod it later if you'd like.

Hello (first post!)
I have a Bluebird, they're pretty good for the price, considering how marked down you can get them used. They seem to be marketed as a versatile project studio mic. I've used it mainly on recording snare and it's been good. It sounds like it'll be on the smoother end than the other (which I'll admit I haven't tried).

I got a Bluebird a few years ago and liked it at the time but as I've gotten better mics it doesn't get much use anymore. For 100 bucks seems worth a shot. I'm sure you get that back out of it. I remember using it on some female vocals and it sounded nice.
Of course I've had it in the ear before.....
