Considering making the switch

Post by chrisjnorwood » Fri Jan 04, 2013 7:25 am

I'm a composer at TV/film music studio and am currently using Logic and working on an iMac. My company is about to buy me a new rig, and I'm considering switching to running Cubase on a PC (most of the other composers at the studio are on Cubase, so call it peer pressure). Given that there hasn't been an update to Logic in 3 years, and that it seems like I could get twice the machine in a PC for half the price it would be for a Mac, should I make the switch? Looking for someone to convince me either way.

I say depends on what you are going to be most productive with? I personally like working on a Mac because it seems a helluva lot more stable than any PC I've dealt with, and I prefer the interface (don't prefer spending so much for it though!). If you will be transferring sessions back and forth to the other composers then I suppose it makes more sense to be on Cubase though. If the company is buying, price I guess is not so relevant?

I have the latest version of Logic and it had an update a few months ago.

I would go with whatever DAW most of your collaborators are using, for compatibility purposes.

Cheers

Logic has done some small updates lately, but no major ones in quite a while (i.e. no logic 10). Compatibility is a pretty big determining factor. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

There's always Reaper which runs on both and is quite stable on Windows 7. I don't like Cubase much. I like Sonar better but it's not as good as Logic. Reaper is closer but Logic is kind of it's own beast.
