Smoke in the Studio
Smoke in the Studio
I know that cigarette smoke can create a corrosive coating on circuit boards and that keeping the studio smoke-free is a good idea, but I'm fond of burning incense right by my console, am I damaging it, or is only cigarette smoke corrosive?

All smoke is corrosive, however, how much varies by what it is that you are burning.
I would definitely not put anything burning close to any electronics.
Maybe across the room, and only use if sparingly to get the scent?
I have a scented candle I light up once in a blue moon, and only for about 5 minutes, to get a bit of the scent going, the turn it off.
Cheers

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Strongest stuff in this studio are the chocolate covered espresso beans beside my console. I may do a lot of space tripping and fuzzed out freakouts musically, but man it's just the music.ott0bot wrote:"incense"

I just went out and got more plugins for the glade thing in the outlet. I'm getting sick of the smell of fresh linen, or after the rain, or hawaiian sunset or whatever the heck it is though.
I kinda dug the incense vibe, but now I've got someone's smoky, stinky, tweed amp stinking up the place, thankfully it's getting gone today. I think this guy must miniaturise himself and sit inside the amp smoking 60 a day, it's that bad.

I tried it with Simple Green, it didn't seem to do much 409 a different formulation?Jim Williams wrote:Wipe that stinky amp down with a towel and 409. When you see all that brown stuff on the towel, you are 'winning'.
The guy never came to pick it up, so I stuck it in my shed.

To go against the common grain here, a little smoke never hurt anything. A lot of smoke over a long time can cause damage, but that's a whole different story.
How often are you burning the incense? For how long? That's really the issue. The most vulnerable things would be mic capsules, so make sure they're safely away while it's burning and that there's good ventilation and you should be fine for decades. A good measure is if the room starts to stink you're burning too much. Plus it can be a major client turn-off.
