You MUST be drunk.
That YouTube video sounds like SHIT.
You did say "recording"
Anything on any CD anywhere, will sound better than this YouTube video.

Cheers

Diff'rent strokes for diffrent folks, I guess. This isn't even their best song....

Also, apparently, this is the first band Dave ever gave an encore to.

(Not my favorite song/band either, but I dig it 100x more than that Jake Dylan stuff. Does anyone know if Sam Dylan is doing anything musical these days?)

God only knows what the hell I was talking about. That song is awesome though.

edit: That Living Colour song is baddass too... not even a fan, but that's a good jam.

There has been so much incredible music on Letterman over the years (especially if you consider the NBC years as well).

My all-time favorite mind-blowing TV (or at least "Letterman TV"), was the hour devoted to Warren Zevon before his death. I have been a fan of Dave's since I was in HS/early years of college (when he was on in the day time), and I have found myself "drifting away" over the years as my views and schedule have changed... But if I ever get the chance to meet him, I will definitely thank him for that night of Zevon:

Wish I could find the clip of Cassadra Wilson's first appearance on Letterman. That's the only decent-sounding thing I've ever heard on Letterman in terms of audio. That show has always had the worst audio of any late night show.

Have you noticed how bad EVERY live thing on TV has been in the last 3-4 years?

Here's a picture of their board. Not pictured are the extensive Pro Tools setup to the left and the racks of tasty outboard which my sleepy brain neglected to capture (yes, it was 6:30 AM...we loaded in at 3:30).

I've visited several late night shows with bands I was mixing FOH for, and sat in the control room giving input on the mix. Letterman's sound quality is by far the best, and it sounds just as good on the air unlike some other shows where the broadcast compression pulverizes the mix that sounded great in the control room.

The engineer's name there escapes me but he's been mixing every show for the last 15-20 years, then engineering sessions at night and on breaks and weekends. Really amazing guy.

They keep the studio at like 40 degrees. I passed Dave in the hall wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

I couldn't disagree more. It's always been the worst of the late-night shows as long as I've been watching them. Did you hear the "Best Of" live CD of artists from the Letterman show that came out like 11 or 12 years ago? It sounded awful, too.
