Acoustic Guitar Mic Comparison?

Post by cjac9 » Fri Feb 01, 2013 4:49 pm

Does anyone know if there's something like this for acoustic guitar mic techniques?

I don't know about anyone else but that link isn't working for me.

There was a very extensive comparison of SDCs in the Magazine around a year ago. Check the archives on the magazine site and/or Recording Hacks.

Hey everyone,
Sorry that link didn't work before. It's fixed now. I've seen Mike Jasper's shootout. It's a good review... and thorough.

But I'm actually looking for sound clips of various stereo acoustic guitar miking techniques. It'd be nice to hear the same guitar and same mic's recorded w/ XY, AB, ORTF, MS, etc.

Anyone know where I could find that?

Thanks!

C

I bought one of those Wildwood Dreamland mics and just finished some pretty intense sessions with it to see if it'll work for me - I mostly track acoustic guitar and acoustic instruments, and vocals.

The wide stereo image was damn cool, achieved by using dual electret condensers. Also, the pattern is Omni so you can use it in close mic'ing app's to capture the full spectrum your instruments resonate.

Personally I was impressed enough to keep this one and order another to make a pair.

I need about 10 free, boutique mics to just 'try-out' forever
