No signal from RCA 74b

Post by kevinf » Fri Mar 01, 2013 11:42 pm

Hey guys

I have an old RCA 74b ribbon that has just recently stopped giving me any signal. I've opened it up and as far as I can see, the ribbon isn't broken. I always use a pop filter and I'm pretty cagey on the SPL, so I'd have been surprised if it was the ribbon. I've also checked the continuity of the ground and transformer connections to the output XLR terminals, and they all seem fine.

My diagnostic skills are pretty rudimentary, and I'm totally stumped. Anybody got any thoughts about what else I can check?

send it in to AEA. Just got my 74b back from them after I put it in front of one too many bass drums... it sounds better than ever. much better than ENAK's restoration.

Cool. That's encouraging. Only downer is shipping to and from Australia, but probably no way around it.
