Gibson buys Tascam. RIP.
Anyone who recalls Opcode, Tobias, KRK, or any other once great brands, will know this is the death knell.

hey settle down now!
naw for reals though.
I guess I expected everyone to chime in with their fond memories of Tascam. Spill a little out for our homies and so on. But it's kind of slowed down a little around here lately. What happened, everybody get jobs?
I guess I'll register my gratitude to Tascam for making the 80-8, the 688 and the 388.
I especially liked the hernia inducing 80-8. It was kind of crude, in a good way.

as much as this probably stinks...Tascam hasn't really put out anything worthwhile for quite sometime. They've decided to make iOS, portable, and budget interfaces...nothing the was build incredibly well or provides some sort of unique functionality. they've even stopped being helpful about legacy gear tech support.
I'm as fond as the next guy about my Portastudio, but I can't see how this buyout is going to make Tascam any worse then they've become on their own. That being said, I've never had to deal with Gibson customer service...just played some of their old guitars here and there. Are the like El Diablo, or something?

It isn't so much the customer service, as much as every company that Gibson buys gets destroyed by them. Either the quality suffers, or they simply dwindle away into nothing.ott0bot wrote:as much as this probably stinks...Tascam hasn't really put out anything worthwhile for quite sometime. I have friends that work in Montebello, some a very long time. I'll ask about this.
As bad as it sounds, I wish it was Harmon that bought them. Gibson is the kiss of death. Mike Tobias said it was the worst decision he ever made selling to them. He kicks himself every day for that blunder.
Sony = gone.
Tascam = ???

yeah, Harmon may take away some of the personality of a company, but those companies benefit from being under the same umbrella as other pro audio companies. So you see some constructive collaboration.
I'm the last guy to be trumpeting this, I work for a giant media conglomerate and need a bulldozer and two sticks of dynamite to get any upper management level attention.

You could just send them a memo with your avatar on the letterhead.
Might not get the reaction you want, however.
BTW, do they allow tattoo's on upper management candidates there?
I avoided them because of the stigma and the ability of law enforcement to have another identifier on me. Read too much Ann Frank when I was young.
