I wonder if Rock-like Layer is a patented technical term?

The previous statement is from a guy who records his own, and other projects for fun. No money is made.

Yeah, I don't know... Not sounding very scientific.

Looks like they will be coming out with m disc Blu-ray soon

I thought the only medium would last long term is a shellac disc. Edison used these as well, and the Library of Congress was archeiving recordings to them

because even if the worlds ends up like Mad Max or something, you can just rub a sharpened stick and rub it on the grooves you can hear the sound. no electricity is needed. they go sound pretty crummy though.

I heard a story in NPR about this a couple years ago....and the first song they archived was Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On".

haha.

The most realistic answer to your question is analog tape. 1/4" or 1/2" should be fine. Put it on a known good formula, store it tails out, tell people where it is and there's an excellent chance your great-great-grandkids will be able to listen to it.

As for the philosophical question, that's for the artist to decide. I, for one, am glad that there is wide availability of a lot of music recorded before my parents were born. As someone who provides a band with a recorded version of their music, I'm going to give them the most durable format of that and let them decide if it's worth keeping.
