Can you put "tracks" in an mp3 file?

Post by andyg666 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 6:19 pm

I think the answer is no, but I want to be sure. Is it possible to include track markers or indexes in an mp3 file (similar to tracks on a CD)? I've tried searching here and on google, but I can't come up with non-ambiguous search terms...

Thanks

You can't really take one long MP3 file and insert track markers, no. You can however, take the dozen mp3 files that make up an album and give them specific track numbers. This can be done in iTunes, or with a program like MP3Tag.

Here, try this: http://www.sonicscoop.com/2013/02/21/so ... our-music/

You can't do it with MP3 files... but, you can do it with AAC files. You can create a podcast from Garageband. The exported AAC file will support chapter markers.

Ah -- a podcast with chapter markers. Smart workaround! I like it.

The ID3v2 metadata format allows chapter markers, but not all mp3 players will recognize the tags. If they don't, it's not a problem; they'll just play the files as normal mp3s.

So, yes, you can put chapter markers in an mp3, but your player might not recognize them.
