Bump on this, especially in light of the new Apollo Twin - seems like there's a lot going on in the $700 or so price range that's all quite cool. Anyone tried any of it? What would you go for and why?

I've spent a few hours the last few days looking at various "interfaces".
I'm considering going to Win 8 and will need a replacement for my XP/Delta 44.
I am so un-psyched about this shite - I don't want DSP and I don't want a hefty price tag - I don't even want mic pre's as I like my outboard.
All I want is a good, under US$300 "straight-wire" approach to converting the analog into the digital, I guess thru USB2, and decent monitoring capability.

I really like the audient unit because it has ADAT expansion. I have no idea how the SPL pre's sound, but I really like the audient stuff. one issue with the audient, only 1 headphone output. I do a lot of monitor-less on location recording and I don't want to have to bring along a headphone amp too. that's the only thing that has helld me back...since I'm ready to move in from the 003r set up, but have to keep the lynx aurora in the mix.
