EMU VINTAGE KEYS REPAIR / CHOPPY SOUND?

Post by runrunrun » Sat Jul 06, 2013 8:27 pm

Hi,

I picked up a used EMU Vintage Keys rack module.

The issue I'm having is that the audio output is choppy, one side of the headphones doesn't work and the phones volume doesn't work.

I haven't been able to find a service manual. Seems like all these issues might be tied together.

Has anyone seen this problem / fixed one of these / has the service manual?

Is this the older black module? I don't know that I've ever been inside of one--only worked on the later Proteus modules. If it's like the Proteus 2000 family, you should be able to enter diagnostic mode by holding down both cursor keys while you power on (key combination may be different--check your user's manual if you have one.)

There should be various tests to perform, and it would be wise to do a factory reset. A reset can cure a surprising number of ailments.

its the older black one yes.

i tried the diagnostic mode today and it's failing the MIDI test. wish I could track down a service manual to attempt to fix this.

anyone have ideas?

Did you set it up correctly to do the MIDI test? I think you have to connect MIDI IN to MIDI OUT or some such--I may be misremembering though.

Beyond checking midi connections (no broken solder joints, no problems with the plug itself), I have no idea. You could try epr electronics. They're the experts.
