Does he use this stuff or just sell it? Does he record? Is he an active musician? Does he have any released material using his stuff?

IME a trained musician does have some advantages over a typical AE. I couldn't do what I do without that classical/jazz trained background. It helps in everything I do here.

I'll have you know, vvv, that Radio Shack EQ changed my life.

Mine, too!

When I try and explain the concept to others, even musicians who are not recordists, it seems I confirm their opinions as to my obsessions and sanity ...

There are many Radio Shack EQs, and yet there is only one Radio Shack EQ. All EQs are the Radio Shack EQ, all are one, but only one is the Radio Shack EQ. The Radio Shack EQ is in all of us. Can any of us say we are not now, or have never been the Radio Shack EQ? The power of the Radio Shack EQ lies deep within us, and deep within Radio Shack, and deep within the Radio Shack EQ. No, not that Radio Shack EQ. The other one.

It's the one I threw into the trash about 20 years ago.

It's in the San Fernando landfill if anyone wants to dig for it.

Hmm... all this begs the question... who out there is modifying consumer-grade EQs to do something interesting? Seems like there might be some potential there.

Actually joel, I plan to mention that very place/incident (not by name, but still "What the heck was that about?")...

JJ-- Interesting thought. Maybe it could be one of us. Are there any Death Caps on the Radio Shack EQ????

GJ

PS-- Jokes over-grew this thread like choking vines, a weed I often cultivate purposefully myself. But this is last call, because I'm going in a few weeks (about 12 days, actually)... So get those questions in, if you have any.

Ask him, if he was doing a ground-up build, what he would want his mic to have/feature, and do, both spec-wise and purpose (I'm assuming the Gomez is not such a build; in the alternative, what "non-ribbon" mic ...)

Ask him what he considers a decent, inexpensive, un-modded mic that he would think should be a inspiration to large manufacturers, either,
a. by itself; or,
b. as a mod platform.

Ask him what is the most well-known and/or successful single album he knows one one or more of his mic's was used on, and which mic(s) it was.

Ask him if he would consider buying a new SM7b. (<-- this is a set-up  )

Not sure if this has been said, couldn't see anywhere though related to vvv's last post - ask if he might ever make his own line of mics. Like it or not there are some people who don't want to get into the modification world even if they respect his work. With the reputation he's built I'd imagine those people would go crazy for mics of his own.

In what ways does his philosophy differ from others in the same (similar?) business, such as Mr. Williams?

I've got one of the silver faced RS eqs sitting in my living room - got it cheap, thought I'd give it a try - but it's not the same. Someday (hey, a fella can dream)...

I was actually a bit surprised, upon opening it up, to see that even the silver-faced is inductor based.
