Fostex B-16 - Converting power from 220V to 110V

Post by mkoskister@gmail.com » Tue Jul 23, 2013 11:49 pm

Hello all,

This is actually my first post, but its about a conundrum I cannot find any information on.

I recently encountered a Fostex B-16 that is currently equipped with with a European power cord and I assume is set up for 220V. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this and successfully converted the power section of the machine to 110V?

If so, please share your tips or steps to success. Thanks!

You can buy and use a step down converter.

If the power transformer has taps for 110V as well as 220V then you shouldn't have a problem. Usually there's some sort of switch, or in the worst case you'll need to resolder a pair of jumpers on the transformer.

However if the transformer doesn't have two sets of primaries you'll need an external step down converter. They're relatively cheap and easy to come by.

Thanks,

I plan on opening her up soon, just gotta make room on my workshop desk. I'll let you know what I find inside. I can see where the power cord is soldered onto the transformer. no visable alternate solder points on it, but I need a closer look. I assume there would be something to switch onboard seeing as they were made in Japan for both the USA and European market
