Should I use this mixer to track or just to monitor?

Post by vivalastblues » Sat Aug 31, 2013 6:27 am

Basically I've got this old Tascam M312 that I wouldn't mind using for tracking, but I thought maybe due to it's questionable quality it might be worth just using it for monitoring purposes. I have enough external preamps to not use the pres in the desk.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I kinda know what the M312 sounds like having used it a couple of times so far, but I'd like to know if people think that would degrade my sound to the point where it's not worth actually using to track to tape with. I'm looking to buy something more professional but until then...any thoughts?

How about doing some test recordings with it?
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.
