The AKG Perceptions are NOT made in Austria.

On topic, I had good luck with the CAD M179s. Used them on piano for a jazz record and actually chose them over much more expensive mics that we tried. The multi-pattern selector was a little weird though.

I have a couple of Cascade M20's which are cool because they are voiced darker than most LDCs. Great for overheads. I also use them on vocals that a 4033 is too bright and an SM7 doesn't work on. It's right between the two.

Another I like, altho' I'm not sure if it's made in China altho' it's priced like them what are, is the Blue Spark. (<US$200.00)

Is it bright? Yeah, some, but it can actually sound really good on vocals depending on the singer and pre and compressor.

And it looks pretty cool, if, eh, a little bright (orange).
bandcamp;
blog.
I mix with olive juice.
