Post by supafuzz » Tue Nov 12, 2013 3:45 am

can a digidesign 888 i/o be added to a lynx aurora 16?

Looking for an inexpensive way to add more channels to my HD rig.
I want to dedicate 6 channels to the headphone mixes so the quality of conversion is not an issue.

I will get a 192 i/o eventually but for now need cheap and fast.

Clocking off Black Lion Micro clock II.

The difference is $100 instead of $700

thanks.

Only if it has a "Legacy IO" comnector.

The Digi/Avid ones do have this.

Cheers

Legacy

Post by supafuzz » Tue Nov 12, 2013 12:18 pm

only the 96i/o and 192i/o have the legacy port.

I was wondering if I could connect an adat bridge to the lynx and come out of one of my ADATs

once again it's just for extra channels for headphone mixes

digidesign

Looks like I'm going to get a digidesign 192 with 8 analog outs and add more later. Might as well get something that sounds and is upgradable.

will the latency be ok via Adat?

I have a Lunx Aurora 8 hooked up to a 003r via Adat, and the latency during tracking is a bit distracting, so I used the outs from the 003r for headphone mixes. even with an HD sysytem or latency corection, won't the Adat add some extra latency?

Maybe not if it's clocked with the same clock...Black Lion Micro clock.
Shit I hope not!

There are typically very slight differences between the internal latency of any two different converters. It doesn't matter if they're connected via ADAT or SPDIF or AES or Firewire.... Using two different converters will result in slightly (very slightly, talking milliseconds) different latency between them. But, as far as I know, the ADAT protocol doesn't add any additional latency.

I use a couple of MOTU 2408mk3 boxes as my main interface via a MOTU 424 card. My main converters are SSL Alphalink, connected to the 2408 via ADAT cables. I often use the second 2408's analog outputs for cue sends, effects sends, etc. I never have any problems with latency.

Yes I figured that it wouldn't be a big problem, thanks for that info. It's only temporary until I can get a 192 I/o or something similar

Once again I get almost to the finish line and don't have the right cable to come out of the lynx...looks like db25 AES out but the input on the ADAT bridge is xlr
damn...I got all excited about completing this...hopefully I can find db25 to xlr

Well I realized there's no way to connect the lynx to the ADAT bridge [or if there is it's a byzantine labyrinth of cabling. So back it goes.
I finally found a 192i/o for a decent price and that's on the way.
I guess a digilink cable from the LYNX to the 192 is all I need?

cheap can be a long hard road

Post by supafuzz » Thu Dec 19, 2013 10:22 am

Well the first 192 turned out to be a digital 192 contrary to the seller's listing and claim that it had 8 analog outputs. He was very nice and I was able to return it for a refund including shipping. I finally found a 192 [no analog cards yet] but it was even $30 cheaper than the digital one. Hooked up lightpipe to one of my adats and voila, my headphone mix system is working great. I no longer have to use the patchbay or dedicate channels from the Lynx. It's all part of the i/o now.
The only issue is that I need a long digilink cable because I have to plug the 192 into my 2nd PTHD card so it shows up with 16 channels instead of 8.

cable

Post by supafuzz » Tue Jan 07, 2014 10:00 am

got the long cable but now I discover that it doesn't work normally if here's only one card in it. So I bought an analog output card and with that installed.[it gets here thursday or friday] it's now supposed to show up as more analog outs.
Right now it shows up as 2 192's and the digital outs from lightpipe go to my adat and then out to my headphone system. with the analog outs it should show the 8 outs and 8 digital outs so I can go directly to the Central station for the mix out.

ebay

Post by supafuzz » Tue Jan 07, 2014 10:02 am

also I made an error in Ebay and closed out a claim before I received the refund and guess what..the famous buyer protection went away..so I went to Pay pal and created a case there and if that doesn't work to my credit card....
