a few silly questions about some serious gear.. (UAD-2)

Post by scottiedoo » Wed Jan 22, 2014 10:41 am

I was want to set up a serious mobile I/O after learning more about the UAD-2 real time dsp.. basically the goal would be to drop in plugins from my macbook to insert points on a live analog console.. I know this is possible using the appollo 16 with the onboard dsp and the appollo console application.. can you only use that app w/ the appollo interfaces?? or could you set up a rig on a thunderbolt mac with a appogee symphony and some UAD octo cards.. ??? I'm thinking a thunderbolt PCI chassis w/ octo cards and a symphony + my macbook would be a great alternative to a rack of outboard gear in a live situation.. sorry if this is a dumb question.. I started on ADAT .. made a move to PTLE in 04 when the intel macs came out and Ive avoided changing anything or upgrading due to latency issues.. the UAD stuff blew my mind and its been out forever... lol

For latency free(ish) monitoring, you'll need the apollo.

I'd guess it may be a huge pain in the ass. Where are you mixing? Is the venue and PA worthy of such an elaborate set-up?
