Duck, duct, gaffer tape, etc. - a sticky subject
Duck, duct, gaffer tape, etc. - a sticky subject
Aiight, who's gotta amusing story or a unusual use? I'll start:
Playing inna punk band, I used to tape my Doc Martin round the foot because my toe worked thru the top of the boot.
Also, I have a soft-side electric guitar case where the outside is more duct tape than anything.
Finally (for now), yes, Dorothy, I have used the stuff to make a emergency guitar strap.

Being a young, broke musician (I'm not so young anymore), I became intimate with drums, cymbals, stands, and their repair and modification with the wonderfully simple tools of string and duct tape. Mostly duct tape. Made many an improvised high-hat clutch. You go cale w!!

I ran "Tape Town" for a few years at the Burning Man festival which was a big tape dispenser / small booth that primarily fed people glittery or reflective tape to decorate their bicycles. But I always stocked lots of Gaffer tape, and _never_ any Duct tape.
( I'm not a fan of sticky residue... though if you leave any tape on long enough it will leave some of itself behind )
I'm sure some of that tape must have been put to audio work, in addition to helping people make signs, pasties, otherwise fix costumes, make stilts etc...
Tapetown was quite successful and became expensive over the years so I was glad to franchise the idea out to a couple of other people, one of which is featured purveying his wares in a photo here:

Was running low so just yesterday I ordered six rolls of colored 1" wide gaff tape to color code mic cables... in the shopping process I learned theater people also call such tape Spike tape... who knew!
At Tapetown I met a high volume manufacturer of duct tape wallets, and also met a guy who claimed to have invented a means to seal the sides of reflective tape used on vehicles. He sold the idea to GM because those edges are where dirt gets trapped. I remember he pointed out how race cars these days are not so much painted as they are taped.

It's called DTOC, or Duct Tape Occlusion Therapy. For plantar warts (verruca), it's about as effective - in many cases, more effective - than salicylic acid or cryo (liquid nitrogen) methods.drumsound wrote:I doubt it, but it'll do wonder for the "bikini area.'vvv wrote: to bofe of yooze!
Also, you can use duct tape to get rid of plantar warts.
The thought is, that the tape causes a small amount of irritation to the epidermis surrounding the verruca, and that the body fights off the potential for infection in the area, thus killing the wart.
The wart is covered for about a week (recovered as necessary, as perspiration and showering is likely to compromise the adhesive). Then, one soaks the foot and debrides the wart area with a pumice stone or emery board. The wart is recovered, and the process repeated for several cycles, or until the wart is gone.
Being an avid swimmer, I had issues with these for years, and the duct tape method was the only sucessful method for me - the nitrogen or acid methods were both unsucessful.
The tape method was suggested by a pediatrist, so not any sort of home remedy hokum. It works!
