I hope I'm not monopolizing this thread with OT and useless advice, but I was thinking.
What if you used a multi-band compressor and just ducked the midrange where the intelligibility of your voice sits? It might be less noticable (even desirable) that it be instantaneous and it might be a really slick effect to keep the bass pumping and cymbals sizzling, but have your verbal shtick come through really clearly.
Just an idea.

Now that's quite a thought, CK. If I had a multi-band compressor available for the live rack, I'd already be trying it!

These look affordable, but I don't know what your budget is. (If anything) This model came up recommended by someone I found talking about this via google.

I was just looking at my Presonus Monitor Controller, which dims audio when the talkback is in use. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have a footswitch option for this - I thought it did but apparently not. But I wonder if there's some way you might be able to use a monitor controller with talkback for this. I know some monitor controllers do have footswitches for talkback, though if you're looking for a fade out and fade in rather than solely a switch then that might not work, that depends on what the controller does. But here's one monitor controller with a footswitch option:

Yeah, I know it's a long thread, but I really don't want to use compresser-based ducking in any form or fashion.
But I think I've got it licked now fellas. I will post pictures and some info when the rig is complete (getting real close),
Thanks to All,
GJ
