urei 1176 woes

Post by wkrbee » Mon Mar 03, 2014 5:04 pm

Hello all,I have a pair of older black face 1176s with the same problem.Symptom is both will peg the meter when put in the meter GR mode.No limiting Both pass audio w/o problems. Common problem? Any ideas? Is there a modern cross referenced replacement for Q1?
Thanks

Hi,
Do the meters stay pegged?

I have a pair of 1176s, rev H, and they sometimes peg the meters when changing modes. And I have used plenty of other 1176s of different revisions which did the same.

Cheers

Only in the meter GR mode.In the +4 and +8 switch positions ,the meter tracks output level.

Definitely no compression happening when you crank the input?

Then you do have an issue with the meter input from the compressor chain.
Might be a quick fix, might not. I would take it to a qualified tech.

Even UAD still do repairs on these units, give them a call. I had them service my LA2A a few years back. I bought in "non-working" for cheap, spent about 200 bucks and it is a STAR.
