Here's a little something that's an intro. Just a little taste.

Nice sounds - post more when there's drums!

And just to take the subject of your post literally - you COULD really "do it all" on the tape machine, no DAW. Drums submixed to stereo on two tracks, guitar on a third, and vocals/solos on the fourth. Or Drums AND guitar submixed to two tracks, a third for more guitar and 4th for vocals.
(Everything I do is on 1/2" 4-track, in this manner!)

Full recordings are coming, I just want to have them done before I share.

In the meantime we're doing this fundraiser for the new album, if anyone is interested. The promo video is, at least, pretty funny.

Actually I'll do one better. Mind you this is a very rough mix (and even more rough master) of just a bit of a song we're using for our crowdfunding campaign.

The mics:

SM57 with the output transformer removed close on the snare.

Rode NTK with a '50s NOS GE tube front of the kit about 4 feet out and 3 feet up.

MXL V63N with upgraded capsule as a room mic. This was clipped to a tall shelving unit about 10 feet up and to the left of the kit.

Electro-voice 666 on guitar

Electro-Voice 664 on Vocals (hand held singing in front of the monitors).

Everything was live except for the slide and the vocals which were still recorded to the 22-4 and dumped to PT.

Nice vibe and atmosphere, and mic choices - it's shaping up pretty sweet, I dig it! A Junior Kimbrough cover, is it not?

Your 666 and 664 sound way different than my 666. Mine's all 500-800 midrange. A cool effect-y mic, but not as clear sounding as yours. Hmm...

Thank you sir. As for the mics I can't speak to the difference. They belong to the friend who we enlisted to help engineer the recording (because of his tastes, abilities and gear).

I do know I liked the sound of both on what they were used for better than anything else. :D
