If I could write good songs would I be posting about gear? Nah, I'd be making it happen with what is more than a capable set of tools. Good point. I miss my 424. That's when I was killing it! We might be a little bit goofy now!

buy some fun guitar pedals or something like that.

you've got enough stuff to make a perfectly good recording. You don't need a ribbon mic or something with color.

Make your source sounds cooler... that's my advice.

I also have to mention Waves Kramer Master Tape has made a really big difference in my final mixes, adding a depth that's never been there before and further defining what I always thought of as "glue". Closest thing I've found to the sound I used to get when recording reel to reel on an all-tube tape deck.
