FWIW-Hadda do a throw and go (with me checking all onstage inst's,vox),
Never touched this thing before-wonderful crew offstage dialed in gains
and mons.I walked out front with owner,and his IPAD (No experience-ME- I mean)).
Never heard of it before.-since I advanced,with caveat-
"Any non standard console-TELL ME NOW! You gotta regular console,right?-Analog or digi? TELL ME! We never have much time to explain things".
And then NOT.Mad at first. But it was raining and cold,and we were outside.
Went Very well. In spite of it.
Definitely NOT used to mixing on a big wristwatch.Sorry kids,you missed out
on consoles and racks. Welcome to "progress"
SURE. Wouldda liked:
more fx (ESP Pitch/Harmonizer/modulation)
Some assignable multiband limiting.
NICE.
Pick up a tool,and it does what it says it does.

Anyways,I used the thing,and it works. I might get one to record with.

Here-here. Also FWIW Eric, I wanted to respond with sympathy and solidarity, but I wasn't always clear on what you were saying, so I left it alone (until tj deftly and efficiently crystallized my thoughts in his response above).

I did play a show a few months ago (as a musician, not a techie) where all of the monitor stuff was assigned and mixed via iPad; very disconcerting to an old-timer...

Love the concept, and to some extent the implementation - wonderful for things like churches where the hardware can stay in the tech closet and the volunteer mixes from a pew out front.

But I've heard that this product is not aging well - Apple keeps changing the iPad and Mackie hasn't been able to keep up.

Yup.

Plus (if I may be the negative voice here) it sounds like crap. We got one at a theater where I work sometimes - just A/Bing it with an Allen&Heath ZED-series 24-channel board that's installed there was astounding (even the lighting guy thought so). Absolutely no contest - I'd take the A&H any day.

But to be fair, I haven't tried to use it since v2 firmware came out - I should probably do that before I continue badmouthing it.

I have a DL1608 and don't find using a lightning connector adapter a problem.

I have enjoyed the awesomeness of having a stage manager dial in a monitor mix on their own wifi device.

I don't have a great ear, yet, but the sound seems fine to me. Less feedback problems than I've had with my larger Onyx 1608 that doesn't have DSP I'd guess because of the default noise gates, and the compression and EQ presets for various instruments / vox seem to work well.

I DJ in between sets using my itunes library with another app.. its a darn small yet effective rig!

I am hoping the next generation will allow multitrack recording instead of just the stereo mains and include a wifi router within the unit.
