Post by rafspielman » Mon May 26, 2014 2:31 pm

Hi all,
Anyone know what kind of guitars and amps the Meat Puppets were using on Up On The Sun?

No replies on this...?

Let me just say I love that album. It is the best singalong road trip album I can possibly think of.

"We recorded the whole thing direct guitar. I don?t think we used an amplifier on that whole album. But I don?t think it was supposed to be intentionally poppy or anything. I was just trying to get outside of style if anything. You couldn?t really say what it is, that album."

...Presuming that's legit.

I love that album actually despite its sound. Those songs are just so good.

Way back when, you would see video tapes at guitar shows/record swaps. On a video that was dated late eighties, it seems like a Les Paul(or some sort of copy) was the guitar.

Obviously, that doesn't mean it's the guitar on that record.

No amps! Very cool.
I remember reading somewhere that Shoes recorded the guitars on their first record going direct into the board. I wonder if it's more common than I think...

Lots of echo, overdubs and effects DI'd straight to mixer-->tape; sounds like a Les Paul to me although I do know he used stratocasters frequently post "II" as well.
