Applying effects while looping

I was watching a video recently and learned that applying eq while listening to a short loop of a track will rarely yield the desired results as our ears get used to problems in the audio very quickly.... thoughts?

Think about staring at the sun but for your ears.

Point taken. It seems this is a common thing to do. At least in instructional videos on youtube...

I think, like anything else, if you do something on a small level, you'll still need to back off and look at the whole, as it were. You might work on a small section, maybe where you know there something bothering you tonally, but then listen to the whole track, making sure what you did works from front to back.
