Tascam 388 - quiet track

Post by guyohm » Wed Jul 23, 2014 5:11 pm

Hi,

Sorry if my english is bad but I will do my best. I recently acquired a TASCAM 388. Overall, the machine works pretty well. Still, I seem to have an intermittent problem when I record. Depending where I record on a reel of tape, some tracks may sound quieter then others.

For example, sometimes, if I record a signal to track 3 and 5, when I playback, track 3 may sounds awesome and track 5 may sound very quiet and distorted. If I go further on the reel, track 5 may start to sounds alright. I tried all sorts of things but I can't really explain why it does that. The machine been biased for ATR master tape. I know the mixer is alright ay least until the assign part cause, when I record, the monitoring is perfect.

Please help me if you have an idea of what my problem may be!

I would assume you've already tried a *brand new, not new old stock* reel of tape, correct?

Also, ATR tape is not the correct thickness for a 388 and could cause premature wear problems? You want the RMG LPR35.
