I gotta "bedio", you?

Post by vvv » Thu Jul 31, 2014 11:21 am

A room is more like gear than anything else, right? But we're not really "Making A Space", so I chose this forum.

So I record, as rhythm ranch defines the term, in my "Bedroom + Studio = Bedio".

Anybody else using a non-traditional location to indulge their jones for rhythm and booze?

Pix?

Wanna talk about the compromises and maximizations?

Ex., I can't locate my stuff in the center of any wall, so I hadda kinda build a recording subsection of the room, kludge a rack, stack the amps, store the mics in odd ways, modify the desk for two computers ... I'll post some pix mebbe later.

(Yeah, I know, it's kinda like this thread, but here we wanna see closets, dorm rooms, attics, garden sheds, etc., as opposed to all the good places.)

Shame no one replied to this. :-)

A couple old spaces for me: the first from ~2005 in the upstairs hall of our shared house. Doing bad vocal overdubs in the hallway takes a certain amount of releasing of your inhibitions, which i think is very healthy:

The second from ~2006 (with my assistant engineer hard at work):

..ergonomics were terrible. :-)

The most interesting challenge to me through those years was finding ways to mix and master reasonable-sounding audio with absolutely terrible monitoring. In a perverted way i think it can make you a better engineer in the long run, but who really knows.

I keep it fairly traditional. I have a house with my wife, a 2 year old, and another relative who watches the little guy during the day...so I don't have a lot of free space to myself. Right now I'm in the master bedroom...but will be moving back to a dedicated room after we finish the addition to out house. next step is insulating and finishing the garage for something proper.

right now it looks like this:

Fits my aesthetic!

And ya get all the pretty little lights to make woo-woo by.

(Note: "woo-woo" is a highly technical term not to be used lightly but rather only
when ya wanna be polite, funny and sincere, and yer over 45 years of age and
have actually, at lest once in yer life, made woo-woo.)
