Maybe they should just become a cell phone store like RadioShack....
And where will the music school graduates work if Guitar Center is gone?
I can't say I've helped GC's situation, due to their abysmal selection of gear that interests me, the current days of no sales tax and free shipping and price matching with online retailers..its kind of hard to see how they have held up this long.

Went in Ratshack this morning for some connects to finish out a snake. Obviously empty, and just the manager, Lee, working. I really do like the guy - he's knowledgeable, experienced, and we're both Teac/Tascam fans. Traded some war stories, ignored the obvious, tho he managed to mention he's retirement age. Hopefully it'll work out okay for him.

Music & Arts and Woodwind & Brasswind are also in the GC fold.
GC/MF also run a fair number of "stencil brands" - products that they either manufacture, or have manufactured for them.
Trademarks they use for that include Rogue, OCDP, Harbinger, Raven, Laguna, Carlo Robelli, among a fair number of others.
With an interesting parallel at th' Shack: Optimus and Realistic are often devices made for them by other manufacturers. There was a time long ago that the mics were made by Shure, and sometime later that they were Audio Technica. I'd also seen Optimus cassette and CD decks that were probably Denon or Onkyo under the hood.

FYI for any synth nerds or people with kids that want to get into electronics, I went to my particular RadioShack which is in mega clearance mode...they had a whole lot of Littlebits modules which are in a way like electronic Legos, you can make synths and stuff with them. Normally those are really expensive but I found them to be 70% off...which would be a great way to get into this stuff.
You might call first because I could only find one location that really sold them (mine) but definitely worth checking out.
