Any Good Classic Gear Porn Books?

Post by Derrick » Sat Nov 29, 2014 5:55 pm

I have several for vintage guitar amps, pedals, etc... any for classic/vintage recording gear such as mics, preamps, compressors, maybe consoles? Any including info a bonus. Thanks!

"Recording the Beatles" seems like a good choice.

I've never really seen anything like that. That would make a pretty cool coffee-table type book (albeit with a rather limited and cash-strapped audience).

After seeing this post, I kind of poked around Barnes & Noble, but the closest you really find are electric guitar books.

If you just want to gawk at gear, a couple of places on-line are Vintage King and countant.org (an amazing microphone resource).

Thanks guys. Well, that's surprising that such a thing doesn't seem to exist. I have seen the two sites listed above but wanted something like that in book form to drool over and read interesting tidbits for inspiration/entertainment here and there. I have several for guitar related gear that are so great and inspiring. If anyone else has any ideas, please post them. Thanks all!

Well, there's that "classic audio book" that keeps getting listed on ebay, the one where the seller shows shots of a 1073 or whatever on the page, but doesn't actually mention the author/title.

There's a great stash of old DB and REP magazines here:

Also the tidbits that crop up at preservationsound.com.

There's an ebay seller who is selling books that are plagiarized right off wikipedia. Be careful.

I have a British book from 1961 called 'The Manual of Sound Recording'

It has a picture of "microphones typically available to the engineer"

U47, C12, M49, stereo C24, STCs...... yeah, typical stuff.
