I remember when the first Danzig album came out, that seemed pretty revolutionary, and he kinda did the same thing for The Cult, and Cash, as well as others.

Put so much reverb on something that it no longer resembles whatever it was. Just use the return, no direct sound whatsoever. Pan that around slowly with a Leslie-like plug in.

I do this to add weird stuff in the background of songs, sometimes.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.
