monitor recommendations - bedroom studio?

I've had Event 20/20's (passive, 8" driver) for several years (is it 15 already?), lately the left one has been sounding flaky, it's probably time to replace.
I guess I'd rather stay with something this size, for the bass response (unless modern speakers with 5" have the same or better specs). It also seems like everything is going to active speakers now, I am not sure I want to pay for this (my power amp - a Hafler - still seems okay).

The KRK's match my studio room color scheme as well as my Markbass cabinet, but going by speaker cone color probably isn't the best idea...

Maybe get the 20/20 rebuilt? Do whatever you do to both speakers. Could just be a blown cap, or weak solder joint, and you get another 15 years outta them. Plus, you don't have to learn another set of speaks.

Active monitors are awesome, and there are a ton of really good ones available now. I'm partial to the Presonus, Equator, and the new JBL ones. Astounding value for the money. If your budget is higher then there are even more great options.

I had the same events. I got the Equators (D5s). I'm a hobbyist, but I think these are much better than the events. The only downside is their super bright, blue LED. But I dimmed it with some tape!

Still haven't made a move yet. It sounds like 8" woofers are overkill for a small bedroom setup (11' x 13' or so)? Maybe I'll look harder at the 5" options.

My engineer buddy was over at my home studio yesterday and said he was envious of the sound of my monitoring setup. He works at a studio with a $6,000 monitoring rig whereas I have a $300 pair of monitors!

I swear by the Alesis M1 MKII Active pair that I've been using for going on about 8 years now. If someone offered to trade me speakers that cost 10x as much, I'd be extremely hesitant and only agree to the trade after extensive A/Bing, and even then I'd probably decline due to the familiarity I've developed with this pair. I've really considered buying another pair or two just to have for backup in case they become harder to find.

Familiarity is the number one asset in monitoring. Getting a replacement of the pair you already have would be my first thought, but if you're looking for something new the Alesis would get my vote.

I think the Yamaha HS series are actually pretty decent. I use the smaller ones as a contrast to my main monitors (proac studio 100) and they tell me what i need to hear
in the higher mids and top end.

got mine used for a next to nothing.

I am really loving what Focal has to offer. Their Alpha50's are really close to my CMS-50 [at almost $700 bones less!!!] So a lot of clients are digging them for the project setups at home,
