What Are You Working On This Week March 9-13

Post by A.David.MacKinnon » Thu Mar 12, 2015 8:32 pm

Inspired by and in response to this thread - http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=86789 -
what have you been working on this week?

I've been finishing mixes on a mostly electronic pop record (not my usual bag but fun and interesting to work on), writing and tracking some instrumental piano based tunes (my own), rehearsing for a sideman gig playing organ and guitar, doing dub mixes of an instrumental reggae record.

Finally putting my new studio together. I moved house in October and -very long story very short- haven't been able to do much beyond the bare minimum setup-wise until now. I had a barebones setup for the last couple months of sound design and podcast work, but now that I'm more or less between projects I'm trying to get this room in shape. Making good progress the last couple of nights.

Refining a rock song I cowrote for an upcoming film, figuring out what songs to write next, making stupid tunes for my website http://www.tapesuey.com

Mostly I'm filling out extremely repetitive paperwork for my new job. It sucks!

But, I'm hoping to carve out a few hours to work on vocals for the first song I've written in about 2 years. What will also be kinda fun is that a guy I "met" in an online class is going to record live drums for it (I often use electronic/programmed beats in my home studio), so I'll get to experiment with mixing in acoustic drums.

As I answered this thread's question, it occurred to me that it's likely no one really cares... but oh well. It's here, right?

I've been mixing down some songs I recorded for family/friends' band. Saturday we're wrapping up the tracking with some vocal and acoustic guitar overdubs. I shall post a song or two and pics when all is said and done.

Backing vocals with a pair of sisters who can come up with parts quite quickly and sing great!

Had rehearsal last night, have a gig tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll get a chance to work on some overdubs tomorrow, but time for music is in short supply.

Finished and released the album that almost killed me: Lorenzo's Tractor - All You Hear, spammed it on local college radio, and didn't really touch anything else audio-related because I need a damn break.

Wow! Call me clueless or totally ignorant but what format do you end up on for a surround sound record? And is a dumbed down traditional stereo version also part of the job?

Quit my latest band two weeks ago when they decided they wanna do mostly covers, so I'm lookin' for a new one, or to start one, or sompin'.

Just posted a new album ya can find in the Bandcamp thread in the "Listen to my Shite" forum.

Just did a bass track (Hohner headless Jazz-The Brick-dbx166A) and wrote the lyrics on my latest opus no one will pay attention to, waiting for the CAD M9 to warm up ...
