Synth/organ sound ID

Post by curtiswyant » Mon Jun 15, 2015 3:18 pm

I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to "synth" sounds, but can someone ID the synth (or other instrument) used to make the 1/8 beat harpsichord-like sound in the background starting at 38 seconds:

I've heard it before. Can't place it. Sounds really like a harpsichord but with more sustain. Thanks!

Sounds a bit like an RMI Electra Piano or Rock-si-chord. I have samples of my Electra piano if if you've got a sampler and want to give it a go. There's a complete free set of Rock-si-chord samples out there in internet land as well.

it sounds like an emulation of an old transistor organ. see vox jaguar, farfisa (there's a bunch), etc. here''s a website with all of them

sounds very pet sounds ish to me... not that that helps.. (God Only Knows - Harpsichord)

at the breakdown later you hear a little more clearly that there are a few things layered in there.

my guess is that there are some harpsichord samples doing the pulse thing with a farfisa esque organ filling out the sound in behind it.
the new rules : there are no rules

Yeah. I really do think it's an RMI. The Electrapiano has a setting called organ mode that extends the decay time. Put it through an amp with a bit of spring reverb and you're probably there.
It's amazing how relatively unknown the RMI is now considering it's on everything in the late 60's/early 70's.
