Well, they compared an original recording (dunno what rate/bit depth this file was but assume something at least at 44.1k 24 bit) to .mp3 files running at 112Kbps, 56Kbps and 32Kbps. Sometimes the 112Kbps file scored higher than the original file.

Virtually no one listens to .mp3s at those low sample rates.

No doubt if the testing was done using higher .mp3 playback rates (say 256 or 320), the test subjects wouldn't hear any "emotional" difference.

I know when I hear my stuff at 128kps, it pisses me off. :twisted:

FM HD-Radio and Satellite Radio are below 100Kbps IIRC (millions of listeners). I can't stand either platform, and I generally don't mind a descent 128k rip even on a good system. HD-Radio and XM/Sirius are extremely fatiguing and "phase-y" to me by comparison...
