new toy/tool for guitar, bass, uke, mandolin...

Post by ubertar » Sun Sep 16, 2018 4:16 pm

http://www.stringhammer.com

This thing is fun as hell, and easy to use. No batteries. Hammer the strings like a dulcimer/santoor/kanoun and go back to plucking normally without missing a beat. Costs less than all but the cheapest pedals. Maybe it shoulda been $35.

Takes a little getting used to, but then so did a pick, way back when, as a wee tyke learning guitar (or old lady, or whenever/whoever, but you get the point, I assume).

I ordered one immediately, I have the perfect film project to try it out.

In a way, the idea reminds me of a non electric gizmotron.

Here is a quick unrehearsed noodling. It is a simultaneous demo of my 7 string acoustic baritone, my Sennheiser Ambeo headset (recorded binaural), and the string hammer. For best results listen on headphones.

Thanks, my playing and technique is poor just mainly wanted to give it a quick whirl. Just came yesterday.

Also it occurred to me that Drop box preview has some kind of audio compression going on, sounds better if downloaded. It is a full res, 24 bit 48khz wav.

I like it. Were you listening to Hamza el Din earlier in the day?

If you tighten that up and develop it into a piece I'll add a link from the site if you want.

Ah wasn’t my intention to suggest that was anything more than a recording of me within the first moments of trying it out. I’ll let you know if I end up using it on a film cue but that recording will certainly never go anywhere haha

It's not a recording or performance I'd want to do anything with as-is, but the idea behind it is good and could be developed into something really good, I think. Reminds me of Hamza but maybe after a night out drinking. :P
I like where you were going with it though... I think it has potential if you have the time and motivation. If you end up doing more with that, I'd like to hear it. It takes some time to develop technique with the stringhammer to get the most out of it. Like a pick or pretty much anything else worth using or doing...
