Converting old Audio-Technica handheld wireless to XLR ouput

Post by AMelbye » Mon Oct 08, 2018 1:00 pm

Hi, I just got hold of a bunch of audio-technika AEW-T3300 (using the same capsule as the AT4033) and AEW-T4100 (I think dynamic)

I thought I'd try and repurpose the capsules, either by just making an XLR input, or perhaps moving the capsules to a new body.

Any sort of advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for some good sounding preferably solid state preamp designs, and perhaps some good ideas regarding what mic bodys I could transplant the capsules into.

Thanks! :)

AEW-T3300 (using the same capsule as the AT4033)

Um... no. It does not use the same capsule.

To convert it, you may need the schematics, try someone you may know
who is an authorized repair person.

Cheers

"Capsule based on the classic AT4033 studio microphone" according to the Audio Technica webpage. OK. I guess it is not the exact same capsule, but something similar. Anyways, I'd like to figure out a way to interface with the capsule.

I'm afraid I don't know anyone that might have the schematics. But I'm guessing it wouldn't be too different from interfacing with any other condenser type capsule? I guess if you can find the capsule impedance (can you just measure it? 4033 is an electret as far as I can remember), the rest is just finding a way to modify a proven preamp design to match it, and get a suitable output tranformer, right?

This seems like more of a pain in the ass than it would be worth. Sell the wireless mics to someone doing live sound and buy recording mics.
