Nick, are you bringing the 4 mic's thru the console?
I usually only use a close and a cuppla-feet-out mic, with mis-matched pre's and different mic's.

Yes. Get a balance of the final sound by listening only to the group they are assigned to, through the DAW. Old Skool.
By using the same mic preamps, you eliminate one variable, and potential issues like weird phasing issues, timing issues, etc.
The mic cables can be different lengths, that does not matter almost at all.
You then really get the sense of what each mic can bring out of the amplifier.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

I use separate pre's but have been considering buying a 2nd of one of 'em.
Right now I group 'em as tube, S/S or vintage. I have options within those groupings.
I do have an old Mackie board - and an old Alesis, now I think onnit, but feel the outboard pre's are better than them.
