Tascam 388 pan pot issue

Post by akpasta » Sun Mar 31, 2019 3:17 pm

Hello!

Tascam 388 track 5 pan pot sometimes goes out when you pan right of center. First time about 6 months ago. I pulled the back cover off and shot some cdc qd in there and it cleared up for months and a TON of use.

It Started again the other day and I did the same. It worked but the next day it was scratchy again. uh oh!

I did notice that you can spray into the pots from if you take the knob off. There seems to be a little hope that maybe is made for this on every pot. so I squirted some more in and it was all good again!

My question is can I just keep doing this until it finally dies or should I use a different product than CDC QD? I understand CDC QD cleaner dries completely with no residue which is nice but maybe it can also cause damage? I have read that DeOxit leaves a little lubricant which could help in the long run.

Thoughts??

I’d like to avoid having this thing serviced.

I’ve only ever used deoxit so I would recommend trying that instead. But it’s also possible that you need to replace the pot.
