Tons of Plugin Deals Right Now. Any Suggestions?

Post by Mustang Martigan » Mon Jul 22, 2019 9:35 pm

I have some cash saved up for a couple plugins, but I'm having a hard time deciding with all the current deals going on.

I want a couple Aqua plugs, but I'm waiting until they go on sale.

Decapitator at only $79 is a great deal. Several months ago I missed out by just seconds when it was on sale for $50, so that def ain't happening again! Is there anything that even comes close to it for what it does? The only one I can think of is Phoenix II, but it costs like $500. The same guy also created HEAT, which should be on sale soon, but it's still too pricey at $199.

I just read an article on bx_saturator n how it can saturate specific frequencies. Can't any effect work on a specific frequency range if you just narrow it in with a HPF n LPF right before it in the plugin chain?

I also liked U-he Satin n Softube Tape when I demoed em. I know I'm forgetting a couple others, but as much as I liked em, I found Decapiator all around better sounding.

Besides saturation, is there anything else on sale at the moment that's too good a deal to pass up? I'd prob buy Echoboy too, but I already have an arsenal of delays/echos.

Thanks.

Black Friday is generally the best for plugin sales, I think I got the entire Soundtoys 5 bundle for like $200 a couple years ago. It’s pretty cool, though i think the regular price of $500 is a bit pushing it these days when there’s so much quality competition. So while Decapitator is fine and all, I don’t think $79 or $50 is an amazing never gonna happen again sorta deal...

With that said, Plugin Alliance just finished their big summer sale a couple weeks ago, were some good deals to be had (I picked up Unfiltered Audio Triad and Elysia Phil’s Cascade), but I expect similar deals again around Black Friday or Labor Day or whatever other holiday..

If you’re after multiband processing, i use Izotope Neutron 2 Advanced all the time...it has a saturation part (as well as EQ, Gate, Compression, Transient Shaping...). In some ways more flexible than Decapitator and capable of similar things. Another company that’s constantly doing sales and cross grades if you own anything of theirs, so i would wait for a deal.

i have an awful lot of dirt plugins, if you want the bx saturator, i'd gladly sell to you for cheap. hit me up with a PM.

that said, soundtoys stuff is fantastic - whole bundle is on sale now for cheap and well worth it. i bought decapitator many years ago at full price and do not regret it at all - i still use it all the time.

otherwise, plugin alliance always have great sales - sign up for their emails for cheap flash sales.

yeah, black friday is pretty consistently the best deal for most

Probably not any more now that they went subscription.

I just picked up this thing, sounds cool and is well worth the $30:

Either of you have experience with their "springs" plugin? I'm looking for a good spring verb. I love the UAD BX20, but I'd like to keep it native if possible.

I haven't tried springs, but y'know it's probably great. I had pretty low expectations for valves, but it surprised me....sounds really good, very usable, well thought out features. I messed with the demo for maybe 2 minutes before deciding to buy.

Their space echo sounds worlds better than the GS-201 I was using previously.

My real space echo is dead and currently serving as a table for ms mse's plants. :(

I demo'd springs and thought it was ok - having owned several HW springs and loving the sound of good ones I am always hunting for one that feels real but it was underwhelming IMO. YOu can demo it to try though YMMV.

I bought Metric Halo Channel Strip for $30 earlier this year! Probably my favorite plug in. The EQ and cocoon sounds excellent.

Here’s a free one that my company makes:

https://www.refusesoftware.com/flipper

It’s a simple polarity flipper. The idea is to effectively add a “phase” switch to any DAW mixer, letting you reverse polarity in any track with a single mouse click from the mixer (by bypassing or engaging the plug-in).
