Learning Logic

Post by standup » Mon Sep 09, 2019 11:14 am

I use Pro Tools, and I'm pretty comfortable and can get things done.

What I have in front of me at the moment, though, is a project tracked at another studio in Logic. Since the engineer there is FAR better than me, we may go back to him for mixing. If we can afford it.

Meanwhile, I'm going to do edits and overdubs on my own.

And I'm gonna do it in Logic.

What are some resources? Good web pages, even YouTube? I'm at a bit of a loss cuz if I have to do a crossfade I have to google it. I'm running a Craigslist ad looking for local Logic gurus, but no nibbles on that approach.

65 tracks of audio before overdubs, recorded at 96 kHz. My computer is a 2018 mini, 32 gig RAM and only crashes a couple of times per night with this monster session. When I track things I usually end up with more like 20 tracks.

Look for my friend Jay Asher.

He has written some books on Logic Pro.

He might have online resources.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

The user guide is incredibly helpful: https://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/10.4.5/

Also in Preferences:
- make sure "Show Advanced Tools" is checked along with Advanced Editing and Audio if you haven't already done so.
- in General (Editing Tab) probably turn on "Pointer tool in tracks provides: Fade Tool Click Zones, Marquee Tool click zones" that'll make the pointer act more like the Smart Tool in Pro Tools.

T brings up the tool menu, you'll use that a ton. Otherwise, you'll find things aren't too dissimilar (I'm coming at this backwards though going from Logic to Pro Tools so your experience may be different). You may also choose to choose Pro Tools as a key command preset under the Key Commands menu. Good luck!
