Been cleaning the studio today and listening to this beauty... "Like the River Loves the Sea". a little like a gentle country lilting joni mitchell. very folky and soft beds of acoustic guitar.
It's a recent release but has a very old school velvety texture to it and would love to know about the recording of it. One would assume it's an analog recording because but it has such a warmth and lack of top end "air" (especially in the lead vocal and strings) that I'm wondering how much of that is actually LPF ... or maybe they were tracking a lot with ribbon mics like a R44s or 84s....
I love it and I wonder if I will ever let myself do something so dark in timbre... I hope so.

Re: new Joan Shelley album
I don't have anything insightful to say from an engineering perspective, but this album and the one before it are great. Awesome songs, vocals, arrangements, production. Sometimes I think I'm bored with a genre and then someone comes along and reminds me how stupid that is.
