You want to use a PHONO PREAMP. Records are mastered with the RIAA EQ curve and requires a phono preamp that applies the reverse of the RIAA curve for "accurate" playback. Line out won't give you that.
It's not subtle, either - huge EQ correction.

I have a little standalone phono preamp I found online for about $50. Just look for the most nerdy old-school website.

Some turntables have built in PHONO PREAMPs. Some have a switch to switch it on or off. The switch on one of my turntables is under the actual turntable, you have to lift up the mat and then spin the table until the switch appears in a hole in the table. If yours has that you can plug it straight into a lot of things. (Anywhere you could plug in a tape deck or cd player) Just FYI. I think the chance of it having this goes up with newer turntables. Back in the day I don't remember seeing this on what would now be "vintage" turntables. You might want to check before buying a possibly needless piece of gear though.

My Stanton USB turntable has the RIAA EQ curve correction built in.
It has both phono and line outs, along with digital USB output, mirroring the line out.

Cheers.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.
