Got Attic Residue from diffusors

Hi! So life happened, and I've moved out of the house I'd set up my home studio in... and now I've removed about 16 sheets of Auralex foam from the painted drywall on which it had been glued. I used the standard Auralex FoamTak spray glue (I'm a good man... and thorough), so there was A LOT of glue used.

Now I've carefully peeled the foam back from the walls... and I'm trying to figure out what the best way is to remove this residue. I called Auralex, and they said "yeah, most people just use Goof-Off / Goo-Gone, and a lot of elbow grease"


I spent a few hours on that methodology and barely made a dent. It's just really gnarly up there. Anyone have a secret sauce remedy for this problem?

That's what I'm figuring will have to happen — but I'd love to avoid that, if possible.

its the most expensive but also the fastest. do a rough measure do a 1' x 1' square and see how long it takes to clean it perfect. then rough measure how much you'd have to do and see what amount of time it would take. that might make the paint/sand costs more palatable.

also does the new house have a studio space? will we be able to see it?

No good answer for you, just wanted to say I remember watching this buildout happen on the forum and it looked like a great little space! I hope your next space is even better. Good luck with the goo.

Good input — yeah; I've pretty much punted on the idea of elbow grease — as I did the math in my head and I see it as way more than 40hrs of work to get it clean. Plus, some of the glue already ripped the paint & drywall paper backing off (in just a few spots) so even if I had goo-goned the remainder, there'd still be a little spackling and re-painting to do. Sounds like I'm gonna see if my friend wants to lend his belt-sander... or maybe I'll just hire someone to do this for me.

Thanks for the positive vibes! Yes — the new house is a bit bigger. Not sure whether I'll retrofit the garage or do this in the basement. I'm hiring a friend who's now built several rooms to do the design for/with me. So— once that starts (which is VERY VERY VERRRRRY likely to have to wait until after the baby is born in a few months) I'll be posting pics.

Scrape all that off, then repaint.

Have fun, and remember to use a BREATHING FILTER. You don't want any of that shit in your lungs.

You might see what a smaller dry wall knife, or putty knife and a hammer or mallet can do. If you can scrape off the bigger chunks it might reduce the labor time.

If you gotta get nasty I'd say get a palm sander and a ton of sandpaper for it, you'll go through it like kleenex.

The guy who had my room before I did had done the same thing. As part of my rental agreement, the landlord had a drywall company come in to sand and do a new skim coat. I paid for the painting.
